Her work has been exhibited in several countries from South Korea to Taiwan, Japan, China and more recently in the UK, Switzerland, France and the USA.
Through expressive gestural motions, Anne Marie Laureys pinches, gathers, folds and ruptures clay to create her abstracted and deconstructed forms. There are multiple openings to the work, their centre points are unnavigable, the textured surfaces changeable, embodiments of spawning clay collages. Anne starts her process by throwing the clay into a classic pot, and then she deforms, stacks upon and breaks the surface of the material towards the creation of works which defy typical sculptural vocabulary. In Anne’s words, “The lip, boundary and barrier between interior and exterior, becomes a site for dissection and extension, ad infinitum.” Through spraying pigments onto pieces as they turn on the wheel, Anne Marie’s colours ebb and dissolve through the forms. Her palette is very often artificial and vivid, evocative of a dreamscape composed of elusive forms and tones.
