The London Craft Week 2020 aims to celebrate the best of British craftsmanship and creativity. After a brief delay due to Covid-19, the festival (now in its sixth year) returns with a fresh cocktail of multifaceted events and activities scattered across the English capital.

The Natural Room – The Sarah Myerscough Gallery

The cutting-edge British gallery will throw open its doors to a unique visual and spiritual feast—one that promises to stimulate viewers towards rethinking the interior spaces we continuously inhabit but often overlook. As the title suggests, ‘The Natural Room’ explores the personal objects that surround us, forcing us to view our own living spaces with renewed eyes. The exhibition consists of handcrafted contemporary design and art pieces that have been created by individuals, often with aid from local communities. It involves ethical and emotional decisions to use slow grown, organic materials and skill-based craft. The objects included in the collection reflect sustainability and conscious sourcing, as the makers have incorporated materials such as wood, jute, sisal, willow, stoneware and salt in the making. As part of the exhibition, designer Peter Marigold will give a tour of his cleft cabinets (a collaborative project with Japanese master craftsman Tadanori Tozawa). Other works on display will include Laura Ellen Bacon’s coppered willow bench, Mami Kato’s dynamic new rice straw sculptures, Domingos Todos’ recycled cardboard works and Marcin Rusak’s organic perishable vessels made using discarded flora.
