To celebrate our Shaped By Design season, British Land is delighted to present Craft and Contemporary Design, an exhibition of design focused pieces by a range of London based and international artists in association with Sarah Myerscough Gallery. Preserving traditional hand-crafting skills and formed through environmentally aware practices, each artwork and furniture item showcased is unique.
The curated exhibition brings together a group of internationally renowned and highly skilled craft and design artists, working with wood through innovative and creative practices. They investigate the relationship between function and form via traditional woodturning and furniture techniques as well as the application of new technologies, to create unique and limited edition elegant sculptural pieces. Craft is central to today’s contemporary art and design discourse. It acts as a medium that reconnects with nature through making processes and a strong understanding of material, emphasising the value of the handmade and the beauty of imperfections. T he contemporary works here on display are its strongest advocates.
