The forms and dimensions to a bedroom are connected to the needs and desires of the human body, catering to activities such as rest, daydreaming, dressing, solitude, and intimacy. Within these spaces, the furnishings hold profound significance, often bearing the imprints of familiar routines and enduring use. At Design Miami 2024, Sarah Myerscough Gallery will delve into the importance of our nocturnal sanctuaries by curating a collection of works, all centred around furnishing a bedroom. Among the featured pieces will be the Ethereal Bed by Marc Fish, a suspended chair from Christopher Kurtz and Dana Banes, and an opulent rococo style mirror by Tadeas Podracky.

Each artist calls upon the capacity of natural materials in their practice, resulting in works that enrich the bedroom space with craftsmanship and artistic vision, inviting viewers to reconsider the significance of their own personal abodes.
Aligned with this year’s fair theme, Blue Sky, which celebrates boundless imagination and progressive visions in design, we have created a series of cyanotypes in collaboration with artist Edd Carr. Using a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue image by treating a surface with a lightsensitive solution and exposing it to ultraviolet light. His evocative photography, captured in the vast expanses of the Yorkshire Moors, are presented as skyscapes —visions that evoke both aspiration and resilience amidst the unfolding realities of environmental flux.
In these images, bound by material fantasy, we explore the interplay between materiality and world-making, drawing from intimate, proximate surroundings to reimagine how the practices of craft and design shape our lived realities. Through this exploration, we contemplate how skill in making and knowledge of materials are not merely acts of creation but approaches to co-existence, inspiring futures that embrace openness and adaptability.
