Cristiàn Mohaded : Crafted Collectables: Monte Abierto woven sculptures
We are delighted to launch Cristiàn Mohaded's Monte Abierto collection, which represented Argentina in the London Design Bienalle 2021.
Cristiàn's sculptures are inspired by the Calchaquí Valleys in Catamarca, a province in the northwest of Argentina where the designer is from. Between rivers and mountains, shrubs of Simbol grow wild, forming scattered islands of dense coloured clumps in a desert-like landscape under warm rusty sunsets. Typically harvested during the winter, the cool winds dry the tender green plants into fibrous strands of yellow ochre, ideal for weaving.
Local master artisan Lorenzo Reyes works closely with Cristiàn to bring the sculptures into being through rarified weaving techniques. This collection celebrates the shared vision and creative relationship that they have nurtured over the past decade. Within the work, a powerful narrative emerges about place, visual communication, language, tradition and friendship.
Sculptures can be purchased individually. Prices include VAT and exclude delivery.
