Crafted Collectables: Collection
Our Crafted Collectables series launches an artwork each week from gallery artists and the wider community of artist-designer-makers. We’ve invited them to make a small-scale work that might act as an artefact; a piece that can be treasured over a lifetime, nurtured through family generations or gifted in an act of friendship. We believe that within the taxonomy of objecthood the art object has a unique skill in transferring emotional content; abundant with the maker's affinity to material and the narrative captured during its fabrication, it proposes a focal point upon which memories and ideas can be created, held or restored over time.
This week's Crafted Collectable - Max Brosi
Max Brosi comments, "From my perspective as a maker, I feel a strong urge and responsibility now more than ever to create work that enhances our lives. I get a lot of this from the making process and I try to convey what I experience while making into the final feeling of that work. A sympathetic relationship between maker and material developed over many years of working together, always cognisant of the connection that I feel should exist between material, form, and texture."
Max Brosi strives to achieve the purest and simplest line to define the volume of the vessel. The beach pebble inspired him to focus on pure flowing forms and tactile surfaces; the subtle carved edges on these pieces represent the waves of the ocean in NW Ireland, where Max lives. Max is the recipient of various accolades including an excellence award from the American Association of Woodturners and winning the Royal Dublin Society medal for woodturning. His work was recently featured in After the Fall at the South Tipperary Arts Centre, Ireland.
