A continuation of the 'Khaya' series of work, utilising a limited supply of Khaya Mahogany, a by-product of the musical instrument and veneer industry, this nine drawer chest of drawers is based on the design of a traditional 'Tall Boy'. It is Gareth's most complicated and intricate Khaya Cabinet yet created. Playing with the notions of A-symmetry; the cabinet is balanced with geometric precision, amplifying the beauty of the imperfections and tacit qualities of the warped and knotted material. As confidence grows with the development of this series, Gareth has explored the capabilities of the Khaya and pushed the design to its absolute limit. Utilising the expertise developed in crafting and harnessing this extraordinary material, stitching together the cracks with carefully considered ties, marrying the diverging materials into an harmonious plane.1of 42
