We are pleased to say that the Zaha Hadid and Gareth Neal vessels are already a huge success! designboom has featured them in its March edition in the ‘design’ section, see link below. These wooden vessels are part of a project presented by the American hardwood export council and Benchmark Furniture, originally exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of ‘The Wish List’ during the London Design Festival 2014. Hidden within the fluid, futuristic computer modelled trails of these vessels, are traditionally hand thrown pots, juxtaposing craftsmanship and new technologies in woodwork.

They will be exclusively represented by Sarah Myerscough Gallery at COLLECT 2015 in May hosted at the Saatchi Gallery, London.

Maisie Broadhead at University of Brighton Gallery, 7-23 November 2014 by ben mcleavy

Maisie Broadhead: Broadhead Women, University Brighton, November 2014

Maisie Broadhead: Broadhead Women, University Brighton, November 2014

The exhibition by Maisie Broadhead at the University of Brighton Gallery features her recent series of photographs entitled Broadhead’s Women; a collection of studies portraying three generations of women from the artist’s immediate family. Broadhead’s Women reinterprets the recognisable compositional styles of two historical painters – Johannes Vermeer and Vilhelm Hammershøi – and highlights their similar obsession of repeating the narrative of women situated within quiet domestic interiors. By using the visual format of these iconic artists, while making subtle changes, Broadhead offers intimate and timeless portraits of femininity. The artist graduated with a BA Honours in Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics from University of Brighton in 2002. The exhibition was organised to coincide with the artist’s latest commission, Peepers, currently on show at the Royal Pavilion Brighton until 1 March 2015.

Still Life Bend, 2014. Cherry and birch ply, silk,38 x 23 x 8 and 30 x 20 x 6

We are pleased to announce that the Philadelphia Museum of Art has acquired Big Bend, a major piece from Malcolm Martin & Gaynor Dowling’s recent series of works created during a fellowship residency at The Center for Art in Wood in Philadelphia in 2013. The piece is to join the prestigious museum’s European Decorative Arts and Sculpture collection in 2014.

Big Bend was created using a radical new bending and stitching technique on a single sheet of carved veneered board to form a vessel. New work from Martin & Dowling will be featured in Sarah Myerscough Gallery’s presentation at this year’s COLLECT fair, held at the Saatchi Gallery from 9-12 May, 2014.

Congratulations to the artists on their success!

Gallery artist Ernst Gamperl is currently at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery as part of Martino Gamper’s ‘Design is a State of Mind’. The London-based Italian designer has guest curated the exhibition and chosen a landscape of shelving systems, telling the story of design objects and their impact on our lives. The beautiful hand-crafted large scale wood vessels by Ernst are installed on Martino Gamper’s incredible shelving system ‘Turnaround 2011′ in teak, coloured veneer and blockboard with maple edges.
