Description
Wet Volume marks a significant development in Alida's exploration of the ‘Signature’ form, in which layered material bodies meet glyphic mark-making. This creates draped sculptures that reference both written objects and biomorphic forms. In this installation the signatures have proliferated, expanding into interconnected multiples that flow together as a single volume. Thoughts of cell division, growth, flesh and identity, are woven into the work with the artists own repeated calligraphic paintings on soft fibrous paper as she practiced writing abstracted versions of her young daughter’s name, fragmented into multiple languages, over and over and over again.Join our mailing list
