Adriana Meunie

  • Adriana Meunié is a Mallorca-based fiber artist. The artist studied fashion design in Barcelona at BAU. Starting with a foundational knowledge of textile and design approaches, in 2014, the artist began working with fiber sourced from her immediate environment in Mallorca. The landscape she grew up in. The artist's recent solo show, Playground, took place at Ababa Art Lab Gallery, Mallorca, 2025. She has exhibited internationally to critical acclaim, including: PAD London with NM Art & Design; Supernatural Beauty, 023 Collective, New York, 2023, and Madrid Design Festival selected by Mario Suárez Gonzalez, in 2024. Meunié has been featured in prominent publications, such as Vogue Spain and Elle Decoration.

Observing her surrounding topography, rock formations, oceanic horizons and vast biodiversity, Meunié integrates the qualities of her environment into her practice. The artist states she aims to convey a ‘monstrous elegance’ in her practice. Here, natural materials are processed into bristling and unfettered wall-hangings or sculptural objects. The artist works with locally sourced fibers, each suffused with historic ties to the Balearic region, such as its agricultural practices and craft customs. Carritx and esparto, both native Mediterranean plants, have each been used in basketry on the island. Or wool, integral to shepherding, was a historical driver of the local economy. Working both on loom and sewing on canvas, the artist’s visual language is characterised by what she refers to as ‘clarity’ and ‘rawness’, as well as her own entrenchment in the landscape and its traditions.
