  • BIOGRAPHY

Angela Damman has gained international recognition for her installations, with her Chandelier featured as a central piece in the Gallery’s award-winning Design Miami booth: Material Shores in 2022. Since 2012, Angela has partnered with skilled local artisans in Yucatán, Mexico, focusing on sustainable design and situated-making techniques. Collaborating with local artisans, Angela creates textile works from native plant fibres, using traditional tools and techniques to produce contemporary light pendants, installations and wall pieces. Angela is an associate of TAKTO Design Group, a coalition of designers that use natural and reclaimed materials for their collections.

Her work aims to highlight the material cultures and knowledge of los ancianos in Mexico (the ancient ones), fostering a conscious, symbiotic relationship for social, environmental and economic benefits. Angela reflects, ‘I’ve always envisioned a creative life for my family rooted in connectedness—to a culture, a people, and a way of life. A life where less is more. Where made by hand means harvesting plants, extracting fibres, mixing organic dyes, and spinning and weaving the fibres. Inspired by the talented artisans with knowledge passed down through generations, we are now reaching new levels of sophistication in textile design, while sustaining and nourishing a mindful way of life.’
