Jenny Pockley - New York

2nd September - 2nd October

Last year Jenny went to New York after many years and was captivated by the City; in response she has spent a year producing a magnificent new series of oil paintings on her traditional gesso (plaster) based ground. The London Skyline, her subject for her last three solo exhibitions, was sourced from photographs taken from chartered helicopter trips that flew along the meandering Thames. These photographs allowed her to create dramatic panoramas of vast skies that shroud the defining architectural landmarks with rich, luminous colour. Through the use of traditional medium of oil glaze on a gesso (plaster) ground, the City once more becomes a place of wonderment and the pinnacle of human achievement. Her new body of work focuses on New York seen from both the skies over Manhattan and the streets that line it. A series of magnificent large scale paintings capture the essence and splendour of this emotionally charged City - the paintings exhibit the luminosity and iridescence of this historic city, whilst also making stunning visual statements which embody the iconic character of New York.
